It looks like both the System account and my own ID have full permissions for C:\, but C:\ is owned by "Trusted Installer" and I'm not able to take ownership. When a process is running, so I don't know if this one is significant or not. It's fairly common for these kinds of errors to occur

Volume, but if I try to shrink the volume, after a brief delay while it queries for available space, it says that I can shrink by a few 100 MB, and when I ask it to shrink, it says "The volume you have selected to shrink does not have a recognizable file system. When I try to use Disk Management, it correctly reports the size of my C: drive (80 GB) and pronounces it to be "Healthy (System, Boot, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)", but it says that it has 100% free space.
